Boat Wash and Wax - More Than Just a Rinse

You just finished a weekend on Cherry Creek Reservoir. The water was perfect, the fishing was great, but now your boat hull is covered in mineral deposits and algae. When you look closely, you notice the gel coat has faded from last season's sun. You grab the garden hose, wonder if your old automotive wax will work, and realize you have no idea what you are really doing. Sound familiar?

Most boat owners make the same mistakes. Wrong products leave water spots and dull finishes. Harsh brushes scratch the gel coat. UV damage keeps getting worse. Hard water from Colorado lakes leaves mineral buildup that regular detailing misses.

We handle seasonal boat maintenance with the same precision we use for full fiberglass repairs. Our deionized water rinse eliminates mineral deposits and water spots completely. We use Premier microfiber towels on every job - new towels every time, never reused where cross-contamination could scratch your finish. Your boat gets cleaned, polished, and protected indoors where Colorado's intense high-altitude UV cannot interfere. Our team brings over 20 years of combined fiberglass experience to every boat that rolls into our Commerce City facility.

How It Works

How Boat Detailing Works at Fiberglass Worx

Our proven six-step process removes mineral buildup, protects your gel coat, and leaves you with a spotless finish every time.

1

Free Verbal Estimate*

We do not do phone quotes. Bring your boat to our Commerce City facility or we come to your location for a free in-person assessment. We walk around your hull, discuss your boating plans, explain what protection you need, and answer all your questions before we confirm the service and cost.

2

Condition Assessment and Service Plan

We photograph your hull in bright light to identify mineral deposits, hard water staining, algae growth, and oxidation stage. Colorado's high-altitude UV is 15-20 percent more intense than sea level, which means gel coat fades faster. We document the before condition and create a specific service plan based on what your boat needs.

3

Full Exterior Wash and Decontamination

Using eco-friendly decontamination soap and soft brushes, we remove algae, hard water deposits, road grime, mineral buildup, and lake sediment. This step is critical in Colorado because our lakes and reservoirs leave calcium and mineral stains that regular soap misses. We pressure rinse carefully to avoid damage to trim and seals.

4

Polish and Surface Correction

If your gel coat shows minor swirls, scratches, or oxidation, we apply a light marine polish to prep the surface. This opens the gel coat pores and removes dead oxidation layer, creating a smooth base for wax adhesion. Not every boat needs this step, but every boat benefits when it does.

5

Wax and Ceramic Spray Application

We apply marine-grade protective wax by hand using Premier microfiber applicators. Following that, we spray a System X ceramic coating or Glidecoat Alpha Graphene X marine-grade finish indoors where humidity and temperature are controlled. This two-layer protection system delivers 6-8 months of durability.

6

Deionized Water Rinse and Final Inspection

We rinse your boat with deionized water - not tap water, which contains minerals. This removes soap residue and ensures a spot-free, crystal-clear finish. Our team walks the entire hull with you, pointing out the protection you now have and discussing seasonal maintenance to keep your boat looking sharp all year.

*Formal written quotes are charged at $175. Gets discounted from final invoice if work is performed.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about boat wash and wax at Fiberglass Worx.

How much does boat wash and wax cost?

Pricing depends on your boat size, current condition, and how much correction or protection you need. We do free in-person estimates at our Commerce City facility. There are no hidden fees and no phone quotes. Contact us for a specific price quote.

How long does a boat wash and wax take?

Most boats complete in 1-3 days depending on size, condition, and our current schedule. We prioritize seasonal requests and coordinate scheduling around your boating plans. Contact us early during spring and fall for the fastest turnaround.

What is the difference between wash and wax and ceramic coating?

Boat wash and wax uses marine-grade wax and ceramic spray for 6-8 months of protection and shine. A full ceramic coating is a thicker, more durable application that lasts 2+ years and provides stronger UV and oxidation resistance. Boat wash and wax is ideal for seasonal maintenance. Ceramic coating is better for long-term protection and gloss retention.

How often should I wash and wax my boat in Colorado?

We recommend boat wash and wax twice per year - once before boating season and once after. Colorado's high-altitude UV is 15-20 percent more intense than sea level, causing faster gel coat fading. Hard water minerals from our lakes and reservoirs also require regular maintenance. Seasonal detailing keeps your boat protected and looking sharp year-round.

Why does Colorado's climate make boat detailing more important?

Colorado's elevation and altitude create UV intensity 15-20 percent stronger than sea level locations. Our hard water from mountain lakes and reservoirs deposits calcium and minerals that dull your gel coat. Cold winters and hot, dry summers create expansion and contraction stress. Regular seasonal detailing protects against these unique Colorado challenges.

What boats do you service?

We service all boat types and brands. Whether you own a Tige, Centurion, Mastercraft, Malibu, fishing boat, day cruiser, jet ski, sailboat, or any other fiberglass vessel, we have the expertise and facility to care for it. Bring your boat in for a free estimate.

Do you use automotive wax on boats?

No. Automotive wax is designed for car paint, not marine gel coat. We use marine-grade protective wax and ceramic spray formulated for salt water and freshwater conditions. Marine products cure differently and protect against UV and oxidation in ways automotive products simply cannot match.

Can I bring my boat in without an appointment?

We recommend scheduling ahead, especially during spring and fall seasons. Call us at (303) 585-0515 to discuss your project and book a time that works for your schedule. For larger jobs or complex detailing, planning ahead ensures we give your boat the attention it deserves.
